Cherries. Yummy, juicy cherries. Another large piece, 4′ x 2′, I enjoyed the simplicity and the vibrancy of the red on the complimentary green.

I do not have anything to post this week as I have had to leave town on a family emergency. Will post when I get back.

For my show, Playful Reality, I had chosen this piece to be centered on a white wall by itself. I have had this in the works for around 5 years, and it went through multiple ideas.
Thankfully I was a part of a critique group that gave some different perspective and when they said make the butterfly so big that it goes off the page, I became instantly excited because I knew this was the right direction I needed to pursue.
This was it’s destiny. And it’s big.

I had originally made this guy as an illustration back in college. 2 of them flanked the Mermaid Queen, and were her royal guards. There was something I’ve always liked about the shape of them, the curve of their body with a straight line for the spear.
If you ever find yourself face to face with the Warshark and you can dodge his spear, just punch him in the nose and you’ll be juuuust fine.

This is the fourth and final painting of my roadtrip. The drive truly was beautiful. The air, incredibly blue. There was a feeling of wide open adventure. I know where I was heading, but I could have headed anywhere. And with my top off the jeep and the sun bright and shining, boy was that air fresh.
Looking forward to the same drive later this year.

The third painting on my way from Santa Fe to Denver.
Say Hello won’t you?

A robot, created for war, hellbent on destruction because he knows nothing else, happens upon a single lonely flower. One untrampled by the other machines of war.
So he stops, picks it up, and is transfixed. Could a cold lifeless thing of metal be changed by something as common and simple as this? It’s not a rose or an orchid or a columbine. It’s a daisy.
The answer is, yes. Because beauty can do that.
Some may notice this is also part of scripture from the Bible. As a believer in Jesus Christ, this gives me great hope, especially as I embark on a life as an artist. I am no longer in my day job and all of the consistent paychecks that it provided week after week. I can get anxious. I can. But he asks me to consider. “Why do you worry? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
That’s pretty cool in my opinion. Something as common as a flower has beauty that something man made cannot compare to.
Which, I think, is why this robot is no longer the same.

Coming back to Denver, CO from Santa Fe, NM by way of Taos. I decided to paint this because I found the telephone poles about the only constant friend along this long stretch of road.
Hi friends.

Just a friendly dragon confessing that he rather likes you and will NOT eat you. He’ll be at my show in April, so stop by and say hi to him.
So, I had this idea.
This would be a customizable commissioned piece. I’ve included some ideas below of what it could be. The variations could be in color as well. If you were a fan of the Ohio State Buckeye’s, he could be scarlet and gray. Of course, if you wanted the sign to read “Go Wolverines”, well, I don’t know… Ok ok, yes, I’d paint him Maize and Blue.
Please comment with your thoughts on this.

I recently put some of my sketchbooks on display at TOSA and was thumbing through the pages.
I often do that, going down memory lane and often forgetting where I was or what I was doing when I made these.
I can tell you all of them have been done out here in Colorado. I’m originally from Ohio but moved out here in ’98
